Water resources are found to be getting deteriorated in terms of quality as well as quantity. In the year 2025, 33% of India’s population will live under absolute water scarcity condition. The per capita water availability in terms of average utilizable water resources in the country was 6008 m3 in 1947 and is expected to dwindle to 760 m3 by 2025. (Kumar et al. 2016)
In Rajasthan per capita annual water availability in state is about 780 cubic meters against minimum requirement of 1000 cubic meter and it is feared that the availability would fall below 450 m3 by the year 2050. Rajasthan has only 21.70 BCM water availability out of which only 16.05 BCM is economically utilized. Rajasthan has so far harnessed 11.84 BCM which is 72% of economically utilizable portion.
