Touch Football is an informal variety of football in which the touching, usually with both hands, of a ball-carrier by a member of the opposing team results in a down (Dictionary.com, 2018). A game of Touch Football is played over 45 minutes. Teams can be made up of up to 14 players with a maximum of six players on the field at any one time. Teams must move the ball down the field toward their try line, without passing the ball forward, dropping the ball on the ground or kicking it. Each team has six touches before they need to handover the ball to their opponents. When touched an attacker must stop and roll the ball, unless it is the sixth touch. Defenders are required to be back a minimum of five metres when an attacker rolls the ball or risk being called offside by the referee. Any infringements will result in either a resent of the count or a turnover (Touch Football, 2018).
When playing sports, there are two energy systems that our body uses. These are the Anaerobic system, which consists of ATP-PC and lactic acid, and the Aerobic system. The Anaerobic system (ATP-PC) is from the energy released by the breakdown of creatine phosphate and the Anaerobic system (Lactic Acid) is from the energy released when glucose is converted to lactic acid. The Aerobic system is from the breakdown of carbohydrates and fats, using oxygen. Touch football uses both of these systems. There are 10 components of fitness. These are body composition, agility, muscular power, flexibility, balance, speed, aerobic fitness, muscular endurance, muscular strength and coordination. These components of fitness are all used when playing touch football. There are three body types. These are ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph. An ectomorph is somebody who is lean and takes longer to gain muscle. A mesomorph is somebody who is athletic and can gain muscle easily. An endomorph is somebody who has a high waist and underdeveloped muscles. They find it hard to lose weight. In touch there are three positions. These are the wing, link and middle. The middles are positioned in the middle of the field, between the two links. The middles key roles are rucking/driving the ball down the field in attack and closing down the defence. The links are positioned in between the wings and the middles. The links are the players who often create the opportunities for other players in attack. In defence Links are critical in controlling the wings and middles so they are properly positioned and aligned. The links key roles are performing line attack moves and setting up scores and controlling the defensive line. The wings are the two outermost players, on either side of the field. In attack, they should be near to the sidelines, whilst in defence can move inwards more. They are usually the finishers of the team and whom normally score the most touchdowns in a game. The wings key roles are scoring touchdowns and defending, not letting the attacking players score outside of them (Touch Dump, 2018). A microcycle is the shortest training cycle, typically lasting a week with the goal of facilitating a focused block of training. An example of this is an endurance block where a cyclist strings three or four long rides together within one week to progressively overload training volume (Training Peaks, 2017).

The Anaerobic system is used first and lasts about 30 seconds to two minutes. After that time, the Aerobic system kicks in and lasts for the amount of time you are on field.

Components of fitness

Body composition is your body consisting of many different types of tissue, such as muscle tissue, bone tissue and fat tissue. Although each type of tissue is essential for your body to work properly, too much fat tissue can cause health problems. Agility is your ability to accelerate quickly, dodge, weave and turn. Muscular power is the ability of your muscles to produce small efforts that are repeated over and over again. Flexibility is the ability of your muscles, ligaments and tendons to stretch. This allows for large movements such as touching your toes. Balance is your ability to stay upright or in control of your body position when you are moving or stationary. Speed is your ability to get your body moving quickly. Aerobic fitness is the ability of your heart and lungs to deliver oxygen through your blood to your muscles to produce aerobic energy. Muscular endurance is the ability of your muscles to exert a force. Muscular strength is the ability to use strength quickly to produce an explosive effort. Coordination is your ability to time your movements so that you perform skills smoothly and accurately. These components of fitness are all used when playing touch football.
