Sociologists use the term status consistency to describe the consistency

Sociologists use the term status consistency to describe the consistency, or lack thereof, of an individual’s rank across these factors like income, education, and occupation. Caste systems (India) correlate with high status consistency, whereas the more flexible class system (United States) has lower status consistency (Keirns, ; Strayer, 2015). Nickel and Dimed not only presents our society in the United States as a caste system, it asks to what degree is it present. Ehrenreich had to work two jobs, taking sleep deprivation in stride, just to pay for food and satisfactory place to live. This issue is alive and presently snowballing in every city and town across the United States. According to a recent poll conducted by jobs for the Future, a Boston based employment research firm, 94 percent of Americans agree that “people who work fulltime should be able to earn enough to keep their families out of poverty (p. 119).”
