Part 1: Peer Interview
For the purpose of this paper, I interviewed a fellow peer, Joyce, who works in a Gynecology Unit. The interview involved a face-to-face interaction where I administered questions on the colleague about certain healthcare aspects and her understanding regarding the issues. The interview was conducted in about 30 minutes and brought a clear insight regarding healthcare aspects including leadership perspectives.

What is your role as a health care team member?
My role as a healthcare team member is to provide healthcare services to women through ensuring that health issues affecting women’s reproductive systems are addressed and women’s healthcare is improved. This involves conducting tests and examinations on women’s reproductive health, which are done regularly to ensure reproductive health. During the examination, physical tests observations are done on the woman’s reproductive system, tests to check infection of sexually transmitted diseases, which may negatively affect a woman’s health, and the woman’s use of birth control methods. The process also includes giving advice on the best lifestyle behaviors, which may bring a positive effect on the reproductive health of the women. Other roles, which I perform, include monitoring the health of fetus during a pregnancy to ensure that a safe delivery is achieved and that infants are born healthy.
How do you define professionalism and how does professional responsibility influence your work?
Professionalism is following certain set rules and regulations in carrying out roles and responsibilities in the delivering of healthcare services. This involves performing my duties in an ethical manner whether under supervision or not in order to achieve the set healthcare objectives of improved healthcare provision to all citizens. The healthcare profession requires certain rules to be followed to ensure that healthcare professionals perform their duties effectively without interference. This may include different cultural backgrounds and race, which may negatively impact the delivery of healthcare services. Professional responsibility influences my work in ensuring that patients are safe and that I always do the right thing and not cause any harm to my patients.
Do you consider leaders in your organization stewards of health care? Why or Why not?
Yes I do. Leaders in my organization are committed to ensure that healthcare services are delivered at the right way and at the right time. This concern for patients ensures that patients receive the best care, which will positively impact their health. The leaders are also proud when a patient regains back his/her health, which is a positive indication of their love for their profession. For this to be achieved healthcare professionals must place the needs of their patients before their needs regardless of the circumstances.

Is it important to you that leaders exercise professional advocacy and authenticity as well as power and influence when working with colleagues? Why or why not?
Yes, it is important for leaders to exercise professional advocacy and authenticity as well as power and influence when working with colleagues as this inspires other health care workers in their performance of their duties and responsibilities. Leaders are important individuals who other workers look upon and they must be good examples for the other workers to copy. Leaders have the advantage of influence and they should use this for the betterment of the other staff members.
Interview summary
From the results of the interview, it was clear that every nursing department plays a vital role in ensuring that the health of all citizens is improved (Stanfield, Cross, & Hui, 2012). Every department has also an important role to play in ensuring that the healthcare goals are achieved. Joyce is responsible for the many women who visit the healthcare facility that she works in and ensures a good reproductive health for her patients. Many women are seeking the services of gynecologists in the process of ensuring safe deliveries and good health of their infants and Joyce ensures that this is achieved. Every nurse should perform the responsibilities accorded to him/her diligently as their services impact a certain population of the patients (Stanfield, Cross, & Hui, 2012).
Due to the sensitivity associated with this department, it is important for Joyce to remain professional in the performance of her duties. Professionalism is important in all departments of the healthcare services (Makely, 2017). This involves good grooming, confidence of patient’s information, and performance of the allocated duties in consideration of the ethical responsibilities (Makely, 2017). Nurses play a major role in the delivery of healthcare services in all healthcare facilities and must observe professional guidelines as neglecting these principles may affect the delivery of healthcare services in a healthcare facility. Nurses also ensure that the health of their patients is improved by addressing any present health conditions and providing advice on the best strategies to improve the health of the patients (Makely, 2017). Joyce achieves this by giving advice on the best behaviors, which are able to improve the reproductive health of her patients.
The healthcare leaders should also ensure that the nurses have the necessary resources required to perform their duties and responsibilities effectively (Barr ; Dowding, 2015). These leaders have also an important role in being good role models to the nursing staff as their behavior influences the nurses in how they perform their duties. Good leadership is important in ensuring that other staff members perform their duties accordingly and effectively (Barr ; Dowding, 2015). Leaders should use their powers and authority positively, as this has an impact on the subjects, and if used appropriately, it will guarantee the achievement of the healthcare goals. Opinions of leaders have an impact on their team members and team leaders should provide the best guidance and nurture a good attitude in the members as all are directed on the same objectives (Barr ; Dowding, 2015).
The different departments in the healthcare system must have a good leadership for the departments to collaborate as the different healthcare systems are working towards the same goals. It is the responsibility of the healthcare leaders to provide a suitable environment where members are able to collaborate and support each other in achieving the healthcare goals (Barr ; Dowding, 2015). The interview was successful in providing a deep insight about leadership. Healthcare practitioners can apply leadership roles in their departments to achieve healthcare goals and objectives. Every nurse should take charge of his/her department and perform his/her duties in the required and expected manner (Barr ; Dowding, 2015).
