Introduction
In parts of this assignment you will be required to refer to business information that is used in an organisation. In order to be successful it is therefore important that you chose an organisation from which you will be able to access the necessary information. An ideal scenario would be a small to medium sized local company that is willing to share information with you, including examples of its corporate communications.

Asos Case Study – Report – make assumptions where necessary.

You have been asked to carry out an audit on the types of information used by writing a report on Asos in order to report back to management on the range of information used, the ways in which it is used, and the appropriateness of information used in decision making. In order to do this you need to use the Asos case study given alongside researching the company to complete the following activities.

P1 Explain different types of business information, their sources and purposes.

Complete a table like the one below to show the types, sources (who it comes from) and purposes of information used within Asos. Include at least two examples of each type of information.

Attach examples to evidence three types in your appendices, for example, a screenshot of web-based information or an example of a letter.

M1 Analyse different types of business and their sources (minimum 500 words)

To achieve this criterion you will need to use the data in the table produced for P1 and analyse the different types of business information and their sources described, and give a detailed explanation of the types of information and their sources in P7.

Analyse how the different types of information work together (for example following a meeting with minutes on email, next diary meeting sent via outlook), the benefits of using a number of types together.

Discuss the damage of miscommunication or misinterpretation of using the incorrect type, source or purpose of information.
D1 Evaluate the appropriateness of the information used to make strategic decisions (minimum 500 words)

How does this differ to operational and tactical information in a business?Choose two functions of ASOS, such as finance and marketing, and find out what sort of information each function requires and uses at these 3 different levels
Evaluation is about considering in detail the advantages and disadvantages of something, and coming to conclusions about this.
What is the impact of the information at strategic level being wrong or out of date.

Identify the strategic decisions made by each team and then judge whether the information they used was appropriate or not and make suggestions.

P2 Present complex internal business information using three methods appropriate to the user’s needs.

You need to produce three different types of business communication. Using the Ricoh Arena visit:
Select some data to produce a spreadsheet
Use that data to produce a chart
Produce a presentation explaining Ricoh Arena approach to communication
P3 Produce corporate communication
To complete this criteria, you will need to produce a piece of corporate communication for Ricoh Arena. This could be some advertising, packaging, logo or an endorsement they could use.

P4 Evaluate the external corporate communication of an existing product or service.

To achieve this criteria, you need to investigate some communication from Ricoh Arena, for example a current advert or their website and evaluate its strengths and weaknesses
D2 Evaluate the effectiveness of business information and its communication as key contributors to the success of an organisation, using examples from Ricoh Arena to illustrate your points.

How does the business information and its communications help Ricoh Arena to be successful? Use examples to illustrate your point. Think about how they meet the needs of the user with their communications, what style they use, how they use images and any multi-lingual support they provide.

Assessment activity 4.2
This assessment activity is concerned with issues and constraints in relation to the use of business information in organisations.

P5 Explain the legal and ethical issues in relation to the use of business information
Explain how ASOS comply with their legal requirements. You need to consider the Data Protection Act 1998 and any recent updates, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Computer Misuse Act 1990. The ethical issues you should include are: codes of practice with use of email and the internet, whistle blowing policies and employee codes of conduct.
M2 Analyse the legal, ethical and operational issues in relation to the use of business information within the college, using appropriate examples.
Expand on P5 by identifying the benefits and drawbacks of your observations
P6 Explain the operational issues in relation to the use of business information.

You need to identify a range of operational issues that may occur as a consequence of poor data storing and handling. How would ASOS ensure their data is secure? Give examples of any new systems that may need to be introduced, any health and safety issues that may occur and any additional software or staff training required.
